OAU linguistics student takes on Guinness World Record challenge with 50-hour hand wash-a-thon
In a bid to etch her name in the prestigious Guinness World Records, Subair Enitan, a determined 200-level Linguistics and African Languages student at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, kicked off a remarkable 50-hour hand wash-a-thon on Friday.
Enitan’s ambitious endeavour was not a spontaneous decision; she had informed the Guinness World Record authorities of her intentions back in June, and after due consideration, she was granted the official attempt date of November 24, 2023.
The campus buzzed with excitement as the Student Union leadership rallied behind Enitan, setting the stage for the epic hand washing marathon at the school campus in Ile-Ife. Students and staff alike gathered to cheer on the spirited linguistics student as she embarked on this challenging feat.
Before diving into the rigorous task, Enitan expressed unwavering optimism about securing the title for the longest hand-washing hours.
“My background and the lessons life taught me have been motivating me to embark on this wash-a-thon,” she shared.
“My experience is unexplainable, but it taught me to be selfless. I am confident that I will reach the set goal of 50 hours of hand wash, and by God’s grace, I will emerge victorious.”
Amidst the enthusiastic support from her colleagues, Enitan sought additional encouragement from Nigerians, emphasizing the importance of their backing as she worked towards completing this extraordinary task.
“Despite the massive support from my colleagues here, I pray for the grace of God to be able to complete the task. My parents are very supportive, and I urge Nigerians to rally round me while I work towards completing the task.”
Assuring the safety and success of the event, the Student Union President, Abbas Akinremi-Ojo, revealed that essential support, including ambulance services, lighting, water, and other logistics, had been meticulously arranged to ensure Enitan’s victory in this unique challenge.
The university’s commitment to the cause was evident as the management, represented by the Dean of Students Affairs, Professor John Odedire, affirmed their readiness to provide all necessary resources to ensure Enitan clinches the coveted Guinness World Record.
As Subair Enitan embarks on this unprecedented hand wash-a-thon, the entire university community, alongside well-wishers, waits in anticipation to witness history in the making.
