Just in: Paul Pogba temporarily suspended after testing positive for testosterone
French football star Paul Pogba has been provisionally suspended after he was tested positive for testosterone after Juventus’ clash with Udinese in Serie A.
Decision has now been officially confirmed by Italy’s National Anti-Doping tribunal statement.
The test detected testosterone, a hormone that increases athletes’ endurance while playing.
“In acceptance of the instance proposed by the National Anti-doping Prosecutor, it has provided for the provisional suspension of the athlete Paul Labile Pogba,” NADO Italia said in a statement
The tribunal added that Pogba had violated anti-doping rules when they found the prohibited substance “non-endogenous testosterone metabolites”, adding that the results were “consistent with the exogenous origin of the target compounds”.
The former Manchester United midfielder has 72 hours to respond to the charge, and must produce a counter-analysis of the result that found him guilty of the charge.
If found guilty, doping sanctions in Serie A can result in two to four-year suspension from playing, putting the career of the 30-year-old in jeopardy.
Juventus is yet to comment on this development.
Pogba has been struggling for fitness and has made just 12 appearances for the Italian giant since returning to the club from United in 2022.
