Sanwo Olu visits Kigali Genocide Memorial in Rwanda

As part of the Executive Leadership Retreat, organised by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), in collaboration with the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu has participated in a guided tour at the Kigali Genocide Memorial, Rwanda.

The Lagos State Governor disclosed this during the engagement, which marked the closing session of the Retreat on Saturday, August 26, 2023.

The tour, according to Mr. Sanwo Olu, was a deeply impactful experience for relearning about the horrific events happened during the Rwandan genocide.

“Being in that space, surrounded by the stories, photographs, and artifacts of the victims, there is a deeper understanding of the immense suffering and loss that occurred,” Sanwo Olu stated.

He maintained that it was a stark reminder of the consequences of hatred, discrimination, and division within society.

“The importance of managing diversity and promoting social cohesion cannot be overemphasized; the significance of accepting and respecting differences, as well as the need for open dialogue and understanding among people from diverse backgrounds in our community, society, country and the world at large,” the governor concluded.
