Kaduna CAN mourns victims of Zaria mosque collapse
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaduna State chapter, has expressed sadness over the collapse of the ancient and historic mosque at Kofar Fada, Zaria Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement by Rev Joseph John Hayab and Rev Ma’aji Caleb, Chairman and Secretary, the body of Christians in the state said, “We received with grief the sudden collapse of the ancient and historic Mosque at Kofar Fada, Zaria on Friday, 11th August 2023, during ta’asr [sic] prayers.
“This resulted in the death of many worshippers that were observing their obligatory prayers, and many sustained various degrees of injuries.”
According to the statement, CAN expresses condolences to the Emir of Zazzau and the entire Muslim Ummah in the state over the terrible tragedy on behalf of the Christian community.
The association appealed to God to provide the departed Aljanah Firdaus and all those hurt with the strength to bear the irreparable loss, as well as quick recovery of all those injured.
Now fewer than 12 people have been confirmed dead by officials in the tragic incident.
The late victims were observing the Asr -evening prayer- when the building collapsed in Zaria, Kaduna State, northern Nigeria, at about 4 pm local time, on Friday.
