Joint troops neutralize two ESN/IPOB agitators, arrest five
Joint military operators of the 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Department of State Services (DSS) have killed two IPOB/ESN agitators and arrested five others.
The arrest follows the fierce encounter between the troops and the fighters at Fuji Junction, General Area, Asaba, Delta State, yesterday.
Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, disclosed this on Tuesday, July 18, 2023.
According to him, the swift and massive encounter accompanied a distress call by community members lamenting the regional horror of the terrorists.
“The terrorists succumbed to the overwhelming firepower of the troops, after two of their members fell in the fire fight that ensued, while the survivors fled to their hideout around Okpanam river,” he said.
Upon sighting the gallant combatants, they took to their heels while the officers kept chasing until they were finally knocked down around the Okpanem River with several rounds of ammunition recovered.
Nwachukwu added, “The troops also recovered one AK 47 Rifle, one Pump Action Semi Automatic Rifle, 15 Live Cartridges, one AK 47 Rifle Magazine and a Baofeng Radio Receiver.”
The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, commended the troops efforts as they strive to restore peace and harmony in the region.
He also encouraged them to keep up the synergy between the Nigerian Army and other security personnel for the establishment of a safer nation.
