BREAKING NEWS: DSS arrests ex-CBN Governor, Emefiele
The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested Godwin Emefiele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Emefiele was suspended on Friday by President Bola Tinubu.
Tinubu has appointed Mr. Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi as the interim Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, to replace Emefiele.
The DSS had requested an order to arrest the CBN Governor, Emefiele, on charges of financing terrorism, fraudulent activities, and economic crimes with national security implications.
However, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice J.T Tsoho, denied the DSS’s application.
The court stated that the application should have been accompanied by presidential approval, considering the serious consequences it would have on the Nigerian economy if the CBN governor were to be arrested and detained.
This led to Emefiele’s suspension.
