In a move to promote renewable energy adoption and tackle youth unemployment, the Mustafa Olawuyi Foundation (MOF) has launched an eight-week solar installation training programme in Ikirun, Osun State.

The initiative, implemented in collaboration with Basic Hi-Tech, brings together young participants for intensive training in solar technology, covering installation, system design, maintenance, safety, and business development.

Delivering his address at the programme’s opening, Founder Engr. Mustafa Adeleke Olawuyi called for a shift in Nigeria’s approach to technology and skills development.

“We must not continue to be mere consumers of modern technology,” he said. “Our young people must be trained to understand it and contribute meaningfully to its development.”

He described the training as a pathway to dignity and self-reliance.

“This is about building a future where you are productive, independent, and valuable to society,” he said.

Energy expert Dr. Oladimeji Enoch underscored the importance of electricity to national development, noting that solar energy remains one of Nigeria’s most accessible alternatives.

“Energy drives productivity in education, healthcare, and business. Solar power is no longer optional—it is becoming essential,” he stated.

The programme also addressed financial sustainability, with Alhaji Lateef Arowolo urging participants to cultivate sound financial habits.

“Many businesses fail not because of lack of skill, but because of poor financial management,” he said.

Chairman of MOF, Engr. Abdul Akeem Olawuyi, said the initiative forms part of the Foundation’s broader strategy for sustainable development.

“We are committed to going beyond words by delivering programmes that have visible and lasting impact,” he said.

Meanwhile, technical instructor Engr. Abdulazeez Awotunde emphasised strict adherence to safety standards in solar installation.

“Safety must always come before speed or confidence in this profession,” he warned.

The Foundation noted that participants will benefit from mentorship and practical exposure throughout the programme, with Engr. Bashir Olawuyi leading the training.

MOF added that the initiative aligns with its guiding principles of “Truth. Service. Impact.” and aims to produce not only skilled technicians but responsible and ethical professionals ready to contribute to Nigeria’s clean energy future.
