The Northern States Council of the National Ikirun Progressive Union (NIPU) has invoked constitutional and legal provisions in demanding accountability over the alleged sale of Ikirun’s refuse dumping land at Agboro Community.

In a letter addressed to former Ifelodun Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Hassan Kamorudeen Okanlawon, the group requested key legal documents to justify the disposal of the land.

“These include the court case file number, judgment authorising the sale, public advertisement, valuation report, and proof of payments made into the official local government account,” NIPU stated.

The group questioned whether due process was followed, noting that the land — claimed to have been sold due to development — remains largely vacant, with only a few structures under construction.

“Citizens and community organisations have the right to demand transparency and accountability in the management of public assets,” the letter read.

NIPU warned that failure to provide the requested information within one month would result in petitions to appropriate government agencies across the federation.

“We trust in your sense of responsibility and look forward to your cooperation in the interest of transparency, accountability and the well-being of Ikirun,” the group stated.

Burning of Refuse in Public Place

It added, The continuous burning of refuse at Alamisi Junction has become a serious environmental and public health concern. The practice releases thick smoke and toxic fumes into the air, posing risks to residents, road users, traders, and commuters in the area. It also causes poor visibility for motorists, which may lead to accidents.”
