The Grand Chief Imam of Oyoland, Sheikh Al-Imam Barrister Bilal Husayn Akinola Akeugberu, has paid a courtesy visit to Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, calling for enhanced welfare and religious support for Muslim students of the institution.

The visit, which took place on January 12, 2026, was aimed at promoting religious harmony, moral development and inclusive student welfare within the university community. The Grand Chief Imam was received by the Vice-Chancellor, the Acting Registrar, the University Librarian, the Public Relations Officer and other principal officers of the university.

During the engagement, the Islamic leader made two major requests on behalf of Muslim students. He called for the establishment of a mosque on the university campus to enable Muslim students observe their five daily prayers in a conducive and dignified environment.

He also requested official approval for the formation of a Muslim Students’ Society, which he said would help promote the intellectual, moral and spiritual development of Muslim students, while encouraging mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and excellent human relations among students of different faiths.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor appreciated the Grand Chief Imam for the visit and his concern for the welfare of Muslim students. He assured that the requests would be communicated to the University Governing Council for consideration.

“The requests made by the Grand Chief Imam will be formally presented to the Governing Council when it convenes, for appropriate consideration,” the Vice-Chancellor said.

The visit highlighted the shared commitment of the university management and religious leaders to fostering an atmosphere of understanding, inclusivity and holistic education at Ajayi Crowther University.
