Baba Ijesha Released from Prison
Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has reportedly been released from prison, according to fellow actor and human rights advocate Yomi Fabiyi.
In a statement shared on social media, Fabiyi described Baba Ijesha’s release as a “fresh start,” claiming that an appeal court had cleared the actor of allegations relating to sexual misconduct involving a minor. Fabiyi referred to the initial accusations as a “7-year-old story” and criticized what he described as sentiment-driven attacks that, in his view, overrode the rule of law.
Fabiyi also raised a series of allegations against other individuals involved in the case, including Damola Adekola and Princess Comedian, asserting that they had engaged in misconduct during the investigation. According to Fabiyi, these included alleged age falsification, grooming, and negligence, as well as claims of re-traumatizing the alleged victim.
He wrote: “You are now officially FREE AND OUT. Baba Ijesha is not just back but BETTER. I am also happy you were cleared by the APPEAL COURT of ever having sex/defile any child/minor. The 7-year-old story is a charade. We live in a terrible world, where sentiments and wickedness rise above the rule of law and truth.”
Fabiyi added that his human rights organization does not condone sexual abuse in any form and is committed to advocating against selective justice and the violation of fundamental human rights. “We, as a Human Rights Organization, never and will never condone or support any form of sexual abuse, let alone on children or minors. We will continue to fight against selective justice, abuse the fundamental human rights of any persons, and fight against organized crime like in the case of Baba Ijesha,” he said.
Authorities have not issued an official statement regarding Baba Ijesha’s release or the claims made by Fabiyi. Baba Ijesha had previously been convicted in 2022 on charges of sexual assault and indecent treatment of a child, and had been serving his sentence before this development.
Fabiyi’s statement emphasizes his belief that justice has now been served, while also drawing attention to broader concerns about the legal process and the treatment of individuals in high-profile cases.
