ADC Debunks Court Injunction Claim, Says No Order Restrains David Mark, Aregbesola

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed reports that the Federal High Court in Abuja issued an injunction barring Senator David Mark and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola from functioning as the party’s National Chairman and National Secretary.
In a statement on Thursday, the party clarified that the ruling delivered on September 4, 2025, by Justice Emeka Nwite, did not grant the ex-parte application filed by Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe. Instead, the court directed that the defendants be put on notice and appear to show cause on September 15, 2025.
“The court did not issue any order restraining Senator David Mark and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola from functioning as the National Chairman and National Secretary of the ADC, respectively. Instead, the Honourable Court refused the ex-parte application brought by Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe and directed that the matter proceed with due process,” the statement read.
The certified court order outlined four directives. First, the plaintiff’s application dated and filed on September 2, 2025, was refused. Second, the plaintiff was directed to put the defendants on notice. Third, the defendants were ordered to appear before the court to show cause why the application should not be granted. Finally, the matter was adjourned to September 15, 2025, for the defendants to show cause.
The ADC described the spread of false reports as “the last resort of desperate political jobbers,” accusing opponents of trying to misrepresent court rulings after failing to stop the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing the leadership change in the party.
“This goes to show that these agents of destabilisation will stop at nothing, including misrepresenting court rulings, in their desperate efforts to sow confusion and further undermine opposition parties,” said Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, ADC’s National Publicity Secretary.
The party urged the media and the public to be vigilant and verify information before dissemination in order not to mislead Nigerians.
