FG Discloses Plan to Launch Diaspora BRIDGE Platform to Strengthen Global Academic Collaboration

The Federal Ministry of Education has announced plans to officially launch the Diaspora BRIDGE Platform on Monday, July 28, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the State House, Abuja.
The event will be presided over by Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, alongside the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, CON.
Diaspora BRIDGE, which stands for Bridging Research, Innovation, Development, and Global Engagement, is a digital platform designed to connect Nigerian professionals and academics in the diaspora with higher education and research institutions within Nigeria. It forms part of the Ministry’s broader efforts to enhance innovation, institutional capacity, and international collaboration in the country’s education sector.
According to the Ministry, the platform will allow diaspora experts to register their profiles, list their areas of expertise, and collaborate directly with universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and research bodies in Nigeria.
In turn, local institutions will be able to signal areas of need and initiate structured, demand-driven partnerships.
“The Diaspora BRIDGE is equipped with advanced tools for virtual collaboration, academic matchmaking, and project tracking,” the Ministry stated. “It integrates seamlessly with existing government systems such as the TERAS platform to promote transparency and alignment.”
The Federal Ministry of Education has extended an invitation to stakeholders in the education and research sectors, as well as the wider public, to join the unveiling ceremony and explore the platform’s potential to transform the landscape of higher education in Nigeria. The event will be broadcast live on select television stations.
