The Governing Council of Al-Hikmah University has appointed Professor Lateef Folorunsho Oladimeji as the institution’s 6th substantive Vice-Chancellor.

For many within the university community and beyond, this announcement feels less like a change in leadership and more like the natural culmination of a remarkable academic journey.

Professor Oladimeji is not a newcomer to Al-Hikmah’s mission. From the earliest days of the university, he has worn many hats—each underscoring his deep commitment to academic excellence, institutional development, and faith-inspired scholarship.

As the pioneer Head of the Department of Islamic Studies, he helped lay the intellectual foundation for one of the university’s core disciplines.

As the first Registrar and Secretary to Council, he played a critical role in shaping the administrative backbone of the institution. He also spearheaded strategic initiatives as Director of various centres—ranging from academic planning to research and industrial linkages.

But beyond these roles, it is his intellectual footprint that truly defines his legacy. His 2022 Inaugural Lecture, “Roving Preachers of the Message: Deconstructing Da’wah Across Borders”, not only showcased his scholarly depth but also articulated a vision of cross-border dialogue grounded in Islamic values.

It was a message both timely and timeless, resonating with the global aspirations of Al-Hikmah University.

That he is stepping into the Vice-Chancellor’s office from the position of Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, speaks volumes about his sustained engagement with the university’s academic core.

His appointment is not just a nod to experience—it is an affirmation of a life steeped in service, scholarship, and strategic leadership.

As the university enters a new chapter under his stewardship, stakeholders—students, faculty, alumni, and partners—can look forward to a blend of visionary thinking and institutional memory. For Professor Oladimeji, this is not just a new office. It is a return to the helm of a ship he helped build.
