Vice President Kashim Shettima has called for peace and reconciliation among Kano’s political class, urging that political rivalries be set aside in favor of unity.

He made this appeal during a condolence visit to the family of the late Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Abbas Sanusi, who passed away two weeks ago.

The Vice President’s message was conveyed in a statement released on Saturday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Kano State Governor, Mustapha Muhammad. “Please, please, I plead with you not to allow politics to divide you. You should be united,” Shettima stated at the residence of the deceased. Emphasizing Kano’s importance, he added, “Kano is the heart of the North, and I am from the North,” and offered prayers for unity among the people.

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, welcomed the Vice President and expressed appreciation on behalf of the state. “We thank you so much for coming to commiserate with us over the death of our father and grandfather. We pray for Almighty Allah to take you back home safely,” the Governor said.

Speaking on behalf of the bereaved family, Alhaji Sunusi Abbas expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Vice President and Governor for their support. “We keep praying — may the demise of the Galadiman Kano become an avenue for unity among the political leaders in Kano,” he said, acknowledging the presence of political representatives across party lines.
