In a remarkable academic feat that has captured national admiration, identical twin brothers Matthew and Matthias Busoye have graduated with distinction from the University of Ibadan, both achieving an identical final CGPA of 3.94 out of 4.00.

The brothers not only emerged as the best graduating students from the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, but also clinched the coveted title of best graduating students in the entire Faculty of Technology for the 2023/2024 academic session.

Their journey through university has been a consistent display of brilliance. From their first year, the twins set the tone for academic excellence. At 100 level, Matthias earned a CGPA of 3.84 while Matthew posted 3.89. Their results only improved from there—scoring 3.92 and 3.94 at 200 level, 3.95 and 3.93 at 300 level, 3.94 and 3.93 at 400 level—and culminating in a matched CGPA of 3.94 each at 500 level.

In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), Matthias described their path as one marked by purpose and dedication. “The path to this moment was defined by unwavering commitment to academic success and impactful leadership,” he wrote.

Matthew, who was also chosen to deliver the induction speech as the Best Graduating Student of the Faculty, reflected emotionally on their achievement.

“Yesterday, I had the honour of delivering the induction speech as the Best Graduating Student of the Faculty,” he wrote on X. “Rooted in my personal journey, I shared words I hope will inspire someone to rise above present struggles and keep pushing forward.”

He added: “Truth be told, this still feels surreal. My brother and I standing here today isn’t a reflection of being the most deserving or most diligent students; far from it. But for some reason, we are here.”

Beyond their academic prowess, the Busoye twins also left a mark as student leaders. Matthias served as the Speaker of the 11th Assembly of the Students’ Representative Council, while Matthew led as President of the Society of Electronic and Electrical Engineering Students (SEEEES-UI) during the 2023/2024 academic year.

Their story is not only a celebration of academic excellence but also a powerful reminder of the strength of unity, purpose, and perseverance.
