LASWA Confirms Fire On Ferry As All Passengers Safely Evacuated

The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has confirmed a fire outbreak on the Igbega Eko ferry at the Ipakodo Ferry Terminal in Ikorodu. The incident occurred at approximately 6:45 a.m. while the vessel was en route to Victoria Island.
In a statement on Thursday, LASWA General Manager Oluwadamilola Emmanuel said emergency teams swiftly responded to the distress call, working alongside LAGFERRY, boat operators, and other first responders to contain the situation.
“We are pleased to report that all passengers and crew on board were evacuated safely, though four passengers suffered minor injuries and are currently receiving medical attention,” Emmanuel stated.
LASWA has launched a thorough investigation, in collaboration with LAGFERRY and other stakeholders, to determine the cause of the fire. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening fire prevention measures across Lagos waterways.
“Safety is our utmost priority, and we are committed to implementing any necessary recommendations to enhance fire prevention measures throughout the Lagos waterways,” Emmanuel added.
Despite the incident, LASWA assured the public that ferry operations remain unaffected, urging passengers to stay calm and adhere to safety protocols while commuting on the waterways.
