His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has announced the postponement of the highly anticipated Nigerian Quran Convention.
The event initially planned to celebrate the beauty and wisdom of the Quran, has been rescheduled to accommodate an overwhelming surge in participation and international interest, according to a statement signed by Prof. Is-haq O. Oloyede, CON, FNAL, for and on behalf of the Sultan of Sokoto & President-General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and made available to AfriReporters.
Originally designed for 60,000 attendees, including 30,000 Huffaz (Quran memorizers) and 30,000 other participants, the convention has seen an unprecedented response, with over 500,000 expressions of interest and accreditation requests.
The Sultan explained that the decision to postpone was made after extensive consultations with stakeholders and organizers to ensure a well-structured and inclusive event.
The royal father stressed that the delay will allow for logistical refinements, venue expansion, and enhanced planning to deliver a memorable and spiritually uplifting experience for all attendees.
The statement reads: “We initially planned for 60,000 participants, comprising 30,000 Huffaz (Quran memorisers) and 30,000 other participant. However, due to overwhelming interest, the number of expressions of interest and accreditation requests has now exceeded 500,000 participants. Additionally, we have received a significant amount of interest from renowned international scholars and foreign delegations who wish to be part of this historic event.
“To ensure that we properly accommodate everyone, including our international partners, we have decided—after extensive consultation with key stakeholders and organizers—that the convention will be rescheduled to a later date to allow for a more structured and inclusive gathering.
“This is an opportunity to enhance the event’s quality and impact. This delay will allow us to refine the logistics, expand the venue, and create an even more memorable experience for all attendees.
“A new date will be announced after Ramadan. We remain committed to delivering a groundbreaking, well-organized, and spiritually uplifting convention that will set the foundation for future gatherings of this scale, In Sha Allah,” the statement added.
He expressed gratitude for the patience and support of the Muslim community, praying for Allah’s blessings on their efforts and the success of the convention.
