The Lagos State House of Assembly has responded to former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa’s claims that he still holds the position, reaffirming that Mojisola Meranda is the new Speaker.

In a statement signed by Ogundipe Olukayode on behalf of the Assembly, lawmakers emphasized that over two-thirds of the members remain united in their decision to impeach Obasa on January 13, stating that the move is final and irreversible.

“As elected representatives of the people of Lagos, we owe the public good governance and a harmonious relationship with other arms of government,” Olukayode noted.

The Assembly described Obasa’s insistence as “uncalled for and unparliamentary,” reiterating that his removal was a democratic and majority decision by the members.

Obasa, who was originally elected Speaker for the 10th Assembly, was ousted after a majority vote, and the Assembly maintains that it is committed to its earlier decision.

This statement underscores the Assembly’s firm stance against any challenges to the legitimacy of its leadership transition.
