Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has welcomed the news of the killing of Aminu Kanawa, the deputy of notorious bandit leader Bello Turji.

Kanawa was reportedly involved in numerous violent attacks across the Zamfara and Sokoto States, including areas such as Zurmi, Shinkafi, Isa, and Sabon Birni.

The Nigerian Army reportedly killed Kanawa and several of Turji’s commanders in a military offensive.

Ahmad took to X (formerly Twitter) to celebrate the operation’s success, calling it “good news.” He highlighted Kanawa’s role in orchestrating violent banditry in the region and noted that the bandit leader Turji had fled following the loss of his second-in-command.

Former Senator Shehu Sani also acknowledged the success of the operation, while stressing the need for measures to protect local communities from potential reprisals by the terrorists.

He urged that the security forces focus on safeguarding civilians in the aftermath of this significant blow to banditry in the region.
