Contrary to earlier reports, it has been confirmed that Dr. Murtala Saleh, a rising star in Nigeria’s medical field, survived the gunshot wound sustained during a bandit attack on Kankara General Hospital in Katsina State on Tuesday night.

Dr. Saleh, celebrated as the overall best graduating medical student of 2019 from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, was shot in the right thigh during the assault.

The armed assailants, wielding AK-47 rifles, engaged local police in a fierce gunfight that left another victim, Kamala Suleiman, with a knee injury.

Despite police efforts, the attackers abducted three individuals from the hospital before fleeing the scene. The authorities have since vowed to track down the perpetrators.

Known for his exceptional academic achievements, including excelling in disciplines like physiology, surgery, and pharmacology, Dr. Saleh’s survival has been a source of relief for his family, colleagues, and the medical community.

The incident highlighted the need for adequate security in the region to protect citizens, particularly in sensitive areas like healthcare facilities.
