Zulum pays sympathy visit to Baga, cautions against collusion with armed insurgents
Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has issued a strong warning to farming and fishing communities in Baga, urging them to avoid any form of collaboration with Boko Haram insurgents.
Speaking at the palace of the District Head in Baga, Governor Zulum emphasized the importance of adhering to military regulations to safeguard the region’s stability and security.
While expressing sympathy for the recent tragic events in Dumba community, he called on the people of Baga and surrounding areas to only engage in agricultural activities within military-approved zones.
He stressed that although agricultural activities are encouraged, they must be conducted in full compliance with the rules set by the Nigerian military and the state government.
“I urge the people of Baga and surrounding communities to conduct their farming activities only within areas approved by the military. While we encourage agricultural efforts, it is crucial that our people remain law-abiding and adhere to the rules set forth by both the Nigerian military and Borno State government,” Governor Zulum stated.
Governor Zulum further condemned the actions of individuals who collaborate with insurgents, calling such behavior unacceptable and harmful to the region’s peace.
In addition to addressing security concerns, the governor inspected the 2,000-hectare solar-powered surface irrigation system in Mile 3, which is being used for wheat and cassava cultivation.
He praised the solar irrigation project as a significant step towards boosting agricultural production and achieving food security, not only for Borno State but for the entire country.
Governor Zulum added that similar irrigation projects have been launched in other parts of the state, such as Damasak and Ngala, and are seen as transformative in driving agricultural development.
