Video: Why I will not help president Tinubu’s government, Emir Sanusi confesses
In a striking statement reflecting his stance on Nigeria’s economic challenges, the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has announced his decision to refrain from offering insights or support to the Federal Government’s economic reforms.
The Emir expressed this sentiment during the Memorial Lecture of Chief Gani Fawehinmi in Lagos on Wednesday.
The event, themed “Bretton Woods and the African Economies: Can Nigerians Survive Another Structural Adjustment Programme?” was organized by the Ikeja Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
“I have decided not to speak about the economy or the reforms, nor to explain anything regarding them. If I explained, it would only benefit this government, and I don’t want to aid this government,” the Emir declared while presiding over the lecture.
The Emir, who returned to the revered throne in Kano last year, four years after being deposed by the state government led then by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, expressed sadness over the Federal Government’s actions towards him.
“I choose not to help this government. You see, they are my friends. If they fail to act like friends, I will not act like one,” Emir Sanusi said, explaining his decision.
