The Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, has called on governors in the South-West region of Nigeria to enhance security measures in response to the increasing influx of bandits fleeing military operations in the North-West.

Adams’ statement followed an alarm raised by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde about the growing presence of these bandits in the region. Describing the warning as urgent and real, Adams emphasized the critical need for proactive steps to address the situation.

In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Aderemi, Adams expressed concern over the escalating insecurity in the country. “The alarm raised by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State was a wake-up call for all the governors in the South West. I raised similar alarm last year and nothing was done, and it is sad that up to the present time nothing has really changed, except that insecurity is increasing by the day,” he said.

Adams highlighted the efforts of the South West Security Stakeholders Group (SSSG) and other organizations under his leadership to ensure the region’s safety. However, he stressed that a more coordinated approach is necessary.

“So, I urge governors in the South West to be vigilant and do the needful by addressing the security situation in their respective states before it is too late. We will resist any attempt to turn Yoruba land into bandits and kidnappers’ foothold,” Adams declared.
