KWASU professor emerges IEPA president
Professor Abdul Kabir Hussain Solihu has been elected as the president of the Ilorin Emirate Professors’ Association (IEPA) in an election which took place after the association’s annual general meeting on Thursday, December 26, 2024 at Rotana Hotel, Fate, Ilorin.
Professor Solihu, who won the seat unopposed, is Kwara State University’s Director of the Centre for Research and Development, the former Director of KWASU Press, and the immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Arts.
In his acceptance speech, Professor Solihu highlighted 6 areas of focus his tenure would work on which include professional development programs, community engagement initiatives, mentorship and support networks, and the promotion of leadership and academic excellence.
Others are the preservation of cultural heritage and spiritual engagement programs.
He noted that Ilorin Emirate has a rich heritage of scholarship, culture, and values that have shaped generations of leaders and intellectuals, which should be preserved to advance society.
Professor Solihu stressed that the IEPA was an apolitical association that prioritises inclusivity and neutrality and urged members to collaborate, share knowledge, and pool resources together to achieve common goals.
“Together, we can create a dynamic and supportive environment that fosters growth, inspires excellence, and drives meaningful change,” he added.
Professor Abdul Kabir Hussain Solihu who had served the Association in the capacity of Vice President during the tenure of the 1st President from 2020-2022, is coming in as the 3rd President of the Ilorin Emirate Professors’ Association after Professor Sulyman Alege Kuranga and Professor AbdulFatai Bamidele Olokoba.
Other members of the executive council are Professor Aishatu Ahmed Gobir as Vice President, Professor Abdullahi Alanamu AbdulRahman as Secretary, Professor Mubarak Oloduowo Ameen as Assistant Secretary, Professor Abubakar Laro Ibrahim as Public Relations Officer, Professor Aliru Olajide Mustapha as Financial Secretary, Professor Mubaraq Sanni as the Treasurer, and Professor Kayode Imam Adam as the Legal Adviser.
Professor Saudat Salah AbdulBaqi is the Welfare Secretary, Professor Ismail Bolarinwa Kadiri is the Investment Officer, Professor Isiaka Zubair Aliagan is the new Auditor, while Prof. AbdulFatai Bamidele Olokoba and Professor Binta Ajibola Sulyman are the Ex-officio 1 and Ex-officio 2, respectively.
