Dark days ahead as Nigeria’s national grid collapses for 12th time in 2024
Nigeria’s National Grid experienced its 12th collapse of the year on Wednesday, plunging vast areas of the country into darkness once again. The incident occurred at approximately 2:09 pm, marking yet another setback for the nation’s power sector.
This latest collapse adds to an alarming trend, with 11 previous failures reported since January 2024. Notably, in October alone, the grid suffered three collapses within a single week, raising concerns about the reliability of the country’s energy infrastructure.
In a statement shared on its official Twitter handle, the National Grid confirmed the incident, stating: “A major grid setback has occurred, and the restoration is to commence.”
Frequent grid failures continue to disrupt daily life for Nigerians, highlighting the urgent need for investments in sustainable energy solutions and infrastructure upgrades.
The ongoing instability has fueled frustration among citizens and raised critical questions about the management and resilience of the power sector.
