Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has praised the calm and orderly atmosphere at the commencement of Ghana’s elections, urging citizens to sustain the peace throughout the process.

Speaking from the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency on Saturday, December 7, Jonathan emphasized the importance of maintaining harmony until results are declared.

“So far, we haven’t heard of any untoward behavior from voters or others. We only pray that they maintain this peace,” he said.

As part of the West African Elders Forum (WAEF) monitoring team, Jonathan and other delegates are in Ghana to oversee the electoral process and ensure its smooth execution.

The team is primarily observing polling stations in the Greater Accra region, with a readiness to collaborate with stakeholders should any issues arise.

Addressing concerns over the transmission of results from polling units to the national collation center, Jonathan expressed confidence in Ghana’s track record of disciplined electoral practices.

“I am hopeful that it will end well because this country is known for discipline,” he remarked.

As Ghana continues its tradition of peaceful and credible elections, the WAEF’s presence underscores regional efforts to safeguard democratic processes and foster stability in West Africa.
