UN Security Council sets to meet over Israeli attack on Iran
The United Nations Security Council is set to convene on Monday to discuss the escalating tensions between Israel and Iran.
Iran requested the emergency meeting, as it alleged that Israel’s retaliatory strikes on Saturday violated international law and breached the United Nations Charter
Iran’s permanent mission to the UN sent a letter to the Security Council, stating that Israel’s actions “constitute a serious violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity” of Iran.
However, Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, dismissed these claims as “ridiculous” and labeled Iran’s request as “another attempt to harm us, this time in the political arena.”
The strikes were reportedly in response to Iran’s missile attack on Israel on October 1. Israel characterized the attack as a “precision strike” aimed at Iranian military targets, including missile air defense systems and manufacturing facilities.
The Security Council meeting on Monday will be crucial in determining the next steps to address this crisis.
