A distressing scene has emerged from Gaza City, where a young girl was seen carrying her injured sister on her back after a traffic accident.

Verified footage obtained by Al Jazeera shows the barefoot girl struggling to navigate the challenging terrain, highlighting the dire circumstances faced by many in the region due to the violent assaults by the Israeli forces.

Photojournalist Alaa Hamouda witnessed the girls’ ordeal and captured parts of their journey on camera. Moved by their plight, Hamouda offered the sisters a ride in his car to the Bureij refugee camp, providing a small respite from their struggles.
