Jigawa tanker explosion: Death toll rises to 153, others hospitalized
The devastating tanker explosion in Majia Local Government Area of Jigawa State has claimed more lives, with the death toll now standing at 153. Additionally, 100 people are currently hospitalized, receiving treatment for various injuries.
Police Spokesman DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the rise in casualties in an update on the tragic incident. The victims who lost their lives have been laid to rest in a mass grave.
The injured are being treated at various hospitals, including Aminu Kano, Jahun, Nguru, Hadejia, and Gumel. Earlier reports had put the death toll at 105 with 70 injured, but unfortunately, the numbers have continued to climb.
Earlier, Governor Mallam Umar Namadi expressed his deep sorrow over the tragic incident.
Governor Namadi, who swiftly visited the place of the accident said , “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims during this painful time.
“We stand in solidarity with those who have lost loved ones and those injured in this tragic incident.”
He assured that the State Government will ensure that “the affected families receive the needed assistance as we continue to work on preventing such tragedies in the future.”
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, and emergency services are working tirelessly to provide support to affected families.
