Death Toll passes 39,000 as Israeli attacks kill 70 Palestinians in Khan Younis

No fewer than 70 Palestinians have been killed and more than 200 have suffered varying degrees of injury in Israel’s latest assault on the Khan Younis area in southern Gaza.

Palestinians fleeing Israeli tank shelling and air strikes have likened the devastating situation to “doomsday,” highlighting the extreme severity and hopelessness of their situation.

Gaza’s Ministry of Health confirmed in a statement on Monday that 70 people have been martyred and more than 200 wounded, adding that the dead included women and children.

Reports say residents of the densely built-up area of southern Gaza said the tanks advanced for more than 2km into Bani Suheila on the eastern edge of Khan Younis, forcing residents to flee under fire.

Recall that Israel’s military told Palestinians in al-Mawasi, a Gaza coastal area, to evacuate on Monday, citing the use of the area by Palestinian fighters to launch attacks on Israeli forces.

Families fled Gaza on donkey carts or on foot, carrying their belongings, as Palestinians, the UN, and aid agencies warn that there are no longer any safe zones in the besieged territory.

The latest attacks have increased  the death toll to over 39,000 people who have been killed since Israel launched its war on Gaza in October.

The death toll in Israel from Hamas-led attacks on October 7 is estimated at 1,139, and dozens of people are still being held captive in Gaza.
