Video: Prank gone wrong: Netizens demand actions as Kwara State University student sparks outrage with controversial content
Abdulkareem Oniwiridi, a budding prankster and skit maker from Kwara State University, Malete, (KWASU) has sparked intense controversy on social media, particularly on Facebook. Unfortunately, the attention is not for his creative talents but for a viral prank that has offended many.
In the prank, Oniwiridi tickled a young woman wearing an Abaya, a traditional Muslim garment, and a headscarf.
The stunt has ignited heated debates online, with numerous Muslim netizens condemning his actions as harassment. The prank has struck a nerve, and the backlash is intense.
As the debate rages on, Oniwiridi’s prank has raised questions about personal boundaries, consent, and respect for cultural and religious attire.
Many of those who commented on his content believe it was inappropriate and disrespectful, while others called on the school management to prevail on him and others who are infringing on the rights of other students in the name of skit-making.
Lawal AbdulAfeez Arishekola said, “This is first grade rubbish, there should be limit to ‘content-madness’. The painful part is that there is no ‘man’ there to restore the brain of the ‘wayward boy’.”
Mallam Muhammad Yasin Abdulmumin stressed that, “if he’s shamelessly harassing women publicly like he is doing, you can only imagine how he relates with them in his private life. He should be thoroughly dealt with to enforce the dignity of our women.
On X, a user, Mufti Of Ilorin Online called on the school authority to act with immediate actions to prevent molestation of young women on campus while trying to create social media content.
He said: “We are calling on everyone in Malete/Kwasu and Ilorin, especially our sisters to be careful of this pêrvert and sexual predätor who goes around and touches ladies anyhow without their consents all in the name of creating content. He goes around tickles ladies and even go as far as pecking them as you can see in these videos below, just to he can post on TikTok for likes and comments. This should not be overlook and tolerated in our society, as there are many ways to be creative and create content, and this should never be part of it, you can do your thing without sexualising our sisters. We all should share this around, tomorrow it can be your sister or mine, don’t let us wait till then.”
Mallam Abdus-Salam Aladodo, popularly called Alfa Shehu, also expressed outrage over the content creator’s action, noting that “One thing we should never allow to thrive in our society is sexual assault or harassment of any kind. No one should, in any way or form, jokingly assault or harass anybody all in the name of content creation. Individuals like this should be made to face the repercussions of their foolishness.”
The management of the Kwara State University, Malete, has not reacted to the ugly incident as of the time of this report.
