Egypt co-hosts emergency international conference on Gaza crisis in Amman
An emergency international conference on the Gaza crisis, co-organized by Egypt, Jordan and the United Nations, is set to take place on Tuesday in the Jordanian capital, Amman.
The gathering will feature heads of state, senior government representatives, and key organisations.
The emergency conference which has as its theme: “Call for Action: Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza” , aims to address the urgent humanitarian needs in Gaza and to pursue long-term solutions for peace and stability in the region.
According to the Egyptian government statement, discussions at the conference will focus on effective measures to alleviate the suffering of Gaza’s residents, outline preparations for early recovery, and address the operational and logistical needs for humanitarian support adding that the conference will seek commitments for a collective, coordinated response to the ongoing crisis.
Prominent figures including Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry, Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi, and UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Martin Griffiths, among others, are expected to attend the meeting at the invitation of the organizers, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, Jordanian King Abdullah II, and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
