Nationwide strike: NPF urges organized labour to abide by legal protocols, avert national unrest
In a bid to forestall potential chaos and uphold the sanctity of law and order, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has issued a resounding call for restraint, urging organized labour to reconsider its proposed nationwide strike action.
Emphasising the imperative of adherence to legal procedures, the NPF underscores the pivotal role of dialogue in resolving grievances while averting the specter of societal unrest.
In a press release issued by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, the NPF acknowledges the legitimate right of organized labour to advocate for the welfare of workers. However, it stresses the importance of conducting such advocacy within the framework of existing laws to prevent the erosion of order and stability within the nation.
The NPF’s appeal comes in the wake of the Federal Government’s declaration of the planned strike as illegal and premature.
With tensions already running high, the NPF cautions against exacerbating the situation, warning of the potential repercussions on the nation’s socio-political landscape.
Urging organized labour to prioritize ongoing negotiations at the Tripartite Committee aimed at determining a new minimum wage, the NPF implores them to set aside the proposed strike action. Such a decision, the NPF argues, is crucial to averting undue hardships on the populace and preserving the fabric of societal harmony.
Assuring the public of adequate security measures, the NPF emphasizes its commitment to ensuring that citizens can carry out their lawful activities without fear or hindrance.
Encouraging calmness and compliance with the law, the NPF reiterates the importance of dialogue and legal avenues in addressing grievances and fostering constructive resolutions.
