Ethiopia starts repatriation process of 1590 undocumented migrants from Oman
The Ethiopian Ministry of Women and Social Affairs of Ethiopia has confirmed the commencement of the repatriation process for undocumented Ethiopian migrants held in detention centers in Oman.
The action aimed at bringing back 1590 Ethiopians from Oman to their home country.
The operation is arranged through a series of six flights scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
In the first phase of this operation, 230 Ethiopian individuals, all adult males, were successfully repatriated from Oman. Among them were 18 minors below the age of 18.
Efforts to facilitate the reunion of these returning citizens with their families are underway.
Comprehensive support and care are being provided at the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, alongside temporary transitional centres.
Similar efforts were underway to repatriate approximately 70,000 undocumented Ethiopian migrants currently held in detention centres in Saudi Arabia.
A high-level Ethiopian delegation, spearheaded by H.E. Birtukan Ayano, the State Minister of Foreign Affairs, recently convened with a Saudi delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Al-Yousef in Riyadh.
The primary agenda of the meeting was centred around the repatriation of undocumented Ethiopian migrants from Saudi Arabia, alongside fostering stronger bilateral relations between the two nations.
The discussions, which unfolded against the backdrop of mounting concerns over the welfare of Ethiopian migrants in Saudi Arabia, underscored the urgency and commitment of both parties to address the issue.
