Exclusive: JAMB officials commence test-running of computers with less than 24 hrs to UTME
With less than 24 hours until the commencement of the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the Joint Administration and Matriculation Board (JAMB) appears to be all set for the yearly exercise across the country.
The computer-based examination starts on Friday, April 19, and ends next week, Thursday, April 25.
Officials assigned for the examination have been deployed to various centers across the country.
In some of the centres visited by Afri Reporters, especially in Lagos, Bayelsa, Benin City, and Calabar, officials were seen test-running the computers and network servers that will be used for the exercise to ensure they’re working as expected.
A JAMB official, Nasiru Ibarhim (not his real name), who spoke with our correspondent, said nearly 700 resident monitors and several others have been deployed for the examination across Nigeria’s 36 states of the federation, including the FCT.
“As far as I can tell you, over 700 resident monitors have been deployed for the examination, and the tasks are clear. They serve as the eagle eye of JAMB, make recommendations where necessary, and contribute to the success of the examination.
“Also, we have supervisors, technical officers, proctors, and security officials all involved.
“All of them are in the exercise to ensure things work out as expected,” the official said.
The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) is a computer-based standardized assessment for Nigerian undergraduate students. It is intended to measure problem-solving, analytical thinking, knowledge of scientific concepts, and the significance of each subject studied.
JAMB sets a total of 180 questions. Use of English: 60 questions. Other subjects have 40 questions each.
