Nigerian solo driver completes road trip from Uk to Lagos
In a record-breaking outing, a UK-based Nigerian travel content creator and solo driver has finally arrived in Lagos after a 68-day journey driving from London to Nigeria, West Africa.
Pelumi Nubi, who announced her ambitious road trip in January, was welcomed by Nigerian officials upon her arrival at the Nigerian border with Benin on Sunday.
The 28-year-old solo traveller’s arrival was broadcast on her YouTube channel and announced by Gboyega Akosile, the Lagos governor’s spokesperson.
Speaking with newsmen after her arrival, the record-breaking solo driver said, “The journey was up and down, but to see the warm welcome from so many people has been incredible.”
Ms. Nubi survived a car accident shortly after arriving in Liberia last month. She was treated at a hospital and had her car repaired.
She travelled through 17 countries before eventually arriving in Nigeria after 68 days. Her journey took her from England to France, Spain, Morocco, and across the vast West Sahara Desert.
Ms. Nubi believes she is the first black woman to attempt the expedition.
She stated that her goal was not to smash records, but to demonstrate to the world that “impossible” is just a word.
