Delta State: Nigeria Police arrest eight in connection with attack on policemen
Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have detained no fewer than eight suspects allegedly involved in the killing of some policemen in the Ughelli area of Delta State.
The arrest follows the earlier arrest of five people in connection with the murder of the officers in the southern Nigerian state.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that the policemen were attacked by armed assailants while undertaking a mission to investigate the disappearance and rescue of three of their colleagues who were declared missing.
Last Saturday, the police released the identities of 12 policemen, six of whom they said were murdered and the six others still missing during a rescue operation in the state.
The police pledged to ensure that all those responsible for this reprehensible act, and many alike, are brought to justice swiftly and decisively.
Attacks on security personnel in Delta State have been repeated in recent weeks.
Recall that 17 personnel of the Nigerian Army were killed while responding to a communal clash in Okuama Community.
The victims were buried last week amid tears.
Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu, while commiserating with the families of the fallen heroes and the entire Armed Forces, prayed to God Almighty to comfort the bereaved.
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu directed the army to arrest the murderers of the soldiers.
President Tinubu said, “The cowardly offenders responsible for this heinous crime will not go unpunished.”
He added, “The defence headquarters and chief of defence staff have been granted full authority to bring to justice anybody found to have been responsible for this unconscionable crime against the Nigerian people.”
