Nigeria wants Binance to offer 6-month transaction data of top 100 users
The Nigerian government has demanded Binance for information on its top 100 users in Nigeria as well as all transaction history for the past six months.
The Financial Times reported that the request was made to establish the negotiations between Binance and Nigeria.
Before the detained officials of the crypto exchange giants are released, the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) is also asking the exchange to resolve any outstanding tax liabilities.
Recall that the Federal Government of Nigeria detained top executives of Binance identified as Nadeem Anjarwalla, a 37-year-old United Kingdom and Kenyan national and Binance’s regional manager for Africa; and Tigran Gambaryan, a 39-year-old United States citizen and Binance’s head of financial crime compliance.
The move according to a presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, is part of moves to prevail on Binance for undermining its efforts to stabilise the local currency, the naira.
A few days after his statement, the CBN Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, said $26 billion passed through Binance from unidentified sources.
On March 8, the crypto giant ended all transactions in naira on its exchange platform, following reports that the government demanded $10 billion as payback for profiting from “its illegal transactions” in Nigeria.
