Kidnapping: Nigeria Police deploy mobile unit to rescue schoolchildren amid fresh cases
The Nigeria Police Force announced the deployment of a mobile police unit to Kuriga community, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, northern Nigeria, to rescue school children and kidnapped victims by armed terrorists in the state.
The deployment follows a fresh terrorist attack on the Buda community in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, with about 61 people reportedly taken away by the armed men.
Kaduna State has been a hotbed for terrorist attacks as over 280 students of the LEA Primary School Kuriga, Chikun Local Government area of Kaduna state, were last week kidnapped.
Speaking on the need for the deployment, the Inspector General of the Nigeria Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun said the police will ensure the rescue of the abducted students, using both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches.
The police boss was in Kaduna with other top police officers to assess the situation firsthand.
On his part, the Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, pledged the support of the state government for the deployed mobile police unit while calling on members of the media to ensure responsible journalism in the face of the current security challenge.
Nigeria has been battling with internal security challenges with a sudden rise in cases of kidnapping.
This added to the economic downturn that has sent the prices of food, goods and services to their highest levels in several years.
