Intense clashes erupted between the Sudanese Army (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on multiple fronts across Khartoum on Monday, the first day of Ramadan.

This confrontation occurred despite calls for a truce, urging both factions to observe a ceasefire during this sacred period.

A spokesperson for the army disclosed that special action forces engaged RSF units in the Al-Kadro suburb, north of Khartoum Bahri.

According to him, seven RSF combat vehicles, two fuel trucks, along with heavy weaponry and fuel supplies were destroyed, civilian cars used by the RSF were disabled, and Dushka heavy machine guns, motorcycles, and fuel supplies were seized.

In a social media post associated with the military, images of the operation depicting soldiers securing positions near the Shambat Bridge, east of Omdurman, were showcased. This suggests a potential encirclement strategy targeting RSF forces stationed in key locations overlooking the Nile River.

Reports also confirm heavy artillery bombardments launched by the army from Omdurman, targeting RSF positions in various neighborhoods including Al-Nahda and Sports City.

So far, there has been no official response from the RSF regarding the clashes.

Initially confined to Khartoum, the conflict, which began in April 2023 between the army, led by Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the RSF, has since spilled over to several regions in the western, central, and southern parts of Sudan.

The conflict has claimed over 13,900 lives and displaced more than eight million people, despite multiple failed ceasefire agreements brokered by international mediators.
