Joseph Asoh, a prominent public figure based in PortHarcourt, has raised concerns about the potential extinction of lizards and its dire consequences for humanity.

Asoh’s plea comes on the heels of a viral video showcasing a ‘professional’ lizard hunter, sparking a debate on the ethical and environmental implications of hunting these reptiles.

Asoh emphasized the crucial role lizards play in maintaining the delicate balance of the ecosystem.

“Lizards 🦎 play a very important role in the balance of the ecosystem. They help to keep in check the numbers of ants, cockroaches, mosquitoes, flies, etc.,” he stated passionately.

Asoh cautioned against the indiscriminate killing of these creatures, emphasizing that their extinction could lead to a surge in the population of harmful insects, posing a genuine threat to humanity’s survival.

The public’s response to Asoh’s warning has been varied. Njideka Okafor expressed concerns about the potential extinction of lizards, drawing parallels with other species that have faced a similar fate due to human consumption.
