Governors’ windfall: Economic boost or hidden agenda? Pastor Reno Omokri unveils alarming trends

A renowned Nigerian cleric, Pastor Reno Omokri, has shed light on the financial transformations experienced by state governors following the removal of fuel subsidies.

According to Omokri’s analysis, the disparity in monthly federal allocations has raised questions about the economic decisions being made at the state level.

He said, “Before the subsidy removal, Nasarawa state was reportedly receiving ₦4.3 billion in federal allocation monthly. However, post-removal, this figure surged to ₦12.3 billion, signifying a considerable increase. Enugu, another state in focus, saw its monthly allocation rise from ₦3.4 billion to ₦6.7 billion.”

Notably, Omokri pointed out that the thirty states are projected to receive ₦5.6 billion this year, compared to ₦3.3 trillion in the previous year. Astonishingly, despite this substantial increase, the wage bill remains unchanged. Omokri questions the lack of protests by the Nigerian Labour Congress against governors benefiting from these windfalls and calls for citizens to scrutinize their state governments’ efforts in poverty alleviation.

While challenging the focus on national figures like Tinubu, Omokri urges citizens to question their governors’ contributions.

He highlighted that, unlike Tinubu, who is providing ₦35,000 wage support to federal employees, many governors’ initiatives remain undisclosed.

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Omokri, representing the People’s Democratic Party, expresses the party’s commitment to facing Tinubu head-on.

He encouraged Nigerians to vote for change while acknowledging his personal support for fuel subsidy removal and Naira flotation, advocating for the “GrowNairaBuyNaija” movement.

Omokri concluded with a list of recommendations to support local businesses, emphasizing the use of Nigerian products and services across various sectors, from transportation with Innoson or Nord, to communication with Glo, and construction materials with Dangote and BUA.

As the political landscape evolves, Pastor Reno Omokri’s insights raise pertinent questions about the economic impact of subsidy removal and advocate for increased accountability from state governments.
