As the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winds down, the president of the African football governing body CAF, Patrice Motsepe, has declared that about 2 billion people across the world watched the football showpiece in Côte d’Ivoire.

Motsepe disclosed this at a news conference, ahead of the AFCON final slated for Sunday.

The CAF president described the record as an achievement that Africans should be proud of.

He said the success of Africa depends upon Africa working together, trading together, and in football, countries competing and playing together.

The organization of the tournament has been regarded as one of the best in recent years, with six beautiful stadia across five cities hosting the continental football engagements.

Nigeria and hosts nation Ivory Coast will play the final later on Sunday at the 60, 000 capacity Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Ebimpé in the outskirts of Abidjan, while the third place will be decided between South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo on Saturday.
