It was a moment of joy for the people of Ekiti State after the kidnapped pupils of Apostolic Faith Group of Schools, Emure-Ekiti, Ekiti State regained freedom from their abductors.

The schoolchildren were released alongside their teachers in the early hours of Sunday.

The teenagers and their teachers have been with the abductors after they were kidnapped last Tuesday.

It is not clear if the demanded ransom was paid before their eventual release. Their abductors had threatened to harm the schoolchildren if the 100 million naira demanded was not paid as soon as possible.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu directed the quick rescue of the victims, vowing that similar incidents will not happen again.

Kidnapping for ransom has increased in Nigeria in recent years, with armed gangs targeting road travelers, students, and residents in both rural and urban sections of the country.

The Nigerian upper legislative chamber recently invited security chiefs to appear before it in response to the country’s escalating insecurity.
