The Presidency has applauded the Super Eagles for flying to the semi-final stage of the TotalEnergies African Cup of Nations, AFCON, at the expense of the Antelopes of Angola.

President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement via X.

Onanuga commended Ademola Lookman for scoring the goal and Victor Osimhen for keeping the opponents on their toes.

He said: “Congrats Super Eagles for qualifying for the semi finals of AFCON 2023, with vital goal scored by Ademola Lookman.

“Nigeria, qualifying for the 16th time, has now equaled Egypt’s record for most semi-final appearances.

“Congrats to Moses Simon, who provided the assist to Lookman and was also crowned Man of the Match.

“Congrats to Victor Osimhen for continually terrorising the Angola defence. The goals will come, be rest assured.”

Nigeria will play the winner of Saturday’s quarter-final match between Cape Verde and South Africa in the semi-finals scheduled to be played on Wednesday.
