NEMA gives updates on number of houses affected by Ibadan blast
Over 20 residences were impacted by the explosion that shook Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Tuesday night, according to the National Emergency Management Agency.
NEMA stated in a statement on Wednesday that they did not yet have any information regarding the number of casualties.
The emergency agency also explained that a suspected Improvised Explosive Device caused the explosion that rocked Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
“Over 20 houses were affected. Casualty figures cannot be ascertained for now. Search and rescue operation is still ongoing,” the agency said.
“The situation has been brought under control while arrangements are going on to ensure smooth operation.”
The state governor, Mr. Seyi Makinde, who visited the explosion scene on Tuesday night, vows to bring anyone found guilty to book.
He also said the “medical bills of victims will be picked by the government” while promising to ensure that all those whose houses were affected were ‘supported to rebuild their lives.”
Meanwhile, the state government has called on residents of the state to vacate the incident scene.
In a statement on its Facebook page Wednesday morning, the Oyo State government said “this will enable emergency and rescue efforts to continue at the site without interference. Search and rescue efforts using earth-moving equipment continued throughout the night and remain ongoing. We will keep providing updates about the situation.”
