Breaking news: AS Roma fires José Mourinho after two-and-a-half years in charge
Italian club AS Roma have fired Jose Mourinho as their head coach.
Roma published a statement on their decision to part ways with the 60-year-old Portuguese.
Mourinho joined Roma in May 2021 and spent two-and-a-half years as the team manager, leading them to the Europa Conference League title in 2022.
He also guided the Italian giants to the Europa League final last season, before they were defeated by Sevilla on penalties.
Roma owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin said, “We thank Jose on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for the passion and commitment he has shown since his arrival.”
“We will always have great memories of his stewardship, but we believe that, in the best interests of the club, immediate change is necessary.
“We wish Jose the best for the future.”
The former Chelsea and Manchester United boss won 68 of his 138 matches in charge but has repeatedly been at the centre of disciplinary problems.
He received five red cards in total during 2023-24, which follows the three dismissals he received in 2022-23.
