Kano: Abba Kabir Yusuf praises President Tinubu, extends olive branch to Gawuna after Supreme Court ruling

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a brave leader for defying many attempts to meddle in the Supreme Court’s ruling regarding the governorship elections in the state.

With great satisfaction, Yusuf posited that Tinubu and his deputy, Senator Kashim Shattima, defied strong pressure from resentful quarters to not meddle in the ruling of the Supreme Court.

The persistent denials of Tinubu and his vice governor, Kashim Shettima, demonstrate that Nigeria is genuinely in good hands, according to Governor Yusuf, who was alluding to attempts by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje to allegedly use the Presidency to influence the Supreme Court judgment in favor of his All Progressives Congress gubernatorial candidate, Yusuf Gawuna.

Despite his win at the highest court, the Kano State governor called on Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the APC gubernatorial candidate who lost in the Supreme Court, to work with him to take the commercial hub in northern Nigeria to a higher level.

He said, “As a true democrat and progressive, I called on my opponents and their supporters to join hands with me in the crusade of developing our dear state Kano for the betterment of its citizens.”

“People of Kano needs leaders with vision, passion, zeal, and commitment of initiating projects, policies and programmes that have direct bearing to their lives in all facets of human endeavors, as such the APC Gubernatorial Candidate, Mallam Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, should join hands with me to make Kano proud.”

Recall that the Supreme Court on Friday reversed the judgments of the Court of Appeal and the Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which nullified the election of the governor.

Justice John Inyang Okoro, who delivered the lead judgment, ruled that the law and natural justice were turned upside down by the two lower courts to arrive at the undeserved and unfair decision.

Justice Okoro added that the two lower courts were wrong to have deducted 165,616 votes from the score of the NNPC.

The apex court disregarded the accusation that the voting papers were not signed and stamped at the back.

The latest ruling, which is final in this case, means the Kano State Governor would continue his tenure as stipulated by the Nigerian Constitution.
