Ghanaian chef completes record-breaking cooking marathon after 227 hours
After cooking nonstop for more than 227 hours, Ghanaian chef Failatu Abdul-Razak appears to have shattered the world records previously set by others.
Ms Abdul-Razak, wrapped in her country’s flag, brought the cook-a-thon to an emotional close on Wednesday with a toast to the crowd.
She referred to the cooking marathon as a “national assignment,” saying that she was doing it for her country, Ghana.
Chef Failatu started her incredible attempt on January 1 at the Modern City Hotel in Tamale and ended the attempt at the 227th hour in front of her teeming supporters and fellow Ghanaians.
The team behind her record-breaking cooking marathon is expected to send the evidence to Guinness World Records (GWR) for official confirmation that she is now a new record holder.
Guinness World Records has acknowledged her efforts as it responded to Ms Abdul-Razak’s feat on X, by saying, “We look forward to reviewing her evidence!”
The current holder of the record is an Irishman, Alan Fisher, who displaced Nigeria’s Hilda Baci after cooking for 119 hours and 57 minutes.
Chef Failatu’ attempt to break the record received widespread support from celebrities, politicians, and her compatriots.
