Former Arsenal striker breaks silence on Arteta’s target

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has ruled out the Gunners signing Ivan Toney from Brentford despite the need for the club to strengthen its firepower.

Liverpool compounded Arsenal’s woes as they ran away with a 2-0 score in an English FA Cup match in London to qualify for the fourth round in the domestic tournament on Sunday.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Kevin Cambell highlighted the need for Mikel Arteta to add to his list of strikers to help the team come out successful in the 2023/24 season.

He said, “Will Arsenal go all in for Ivan Toney? I can’t see that happening at the moment. If he’s on a wishlist, yes, because Arsenal need firepower.

“But I just don’t see the maths working out at the moment for whatever reason – be that FFP or sale of players etc.

“So maybe they will have to go down a different route and balance the books before they can make a big assault on Ivan Toney type striker in the summer.

The Brentford striker is set to return to action after serving an eight-month betting ban.

He accepted breaking Football Association betting rules in May. He was also fined £50,000 and warned about his future conduct for 232 breaches of the FA’s betting rules.
